With Varius in exile and KT missing, Mars is forced to step into a leadership role for which he doesn't feel ready. Despite his best efforts, the colapse of the Resistance is imminant as the Offworlders open communication for a so-called peace treaty. The Strikers have begun to divide into two factions--one that wants to hear what the Offworlders have to offer, and one that will never forget and never stop fighting. Ready or not, Mars will need to trust his instincts and make enemies of allies as he tries to protect what's left of the human race in the absense of his general and his most trusted friend. Meanwhile, KT finds herself the prisoner of an unlikely trio of survivors who hold imformation that could lead her back to Varius before his implants reset. --back cover
